ON NRW KULTUR-SEKRETARIAT
Since 1974, in collaboration with its municipal partners and with a wide variety of cultural institutions, the NRWKULTURsekretariat has organised and promoted innovative projects, festivals and event programmes in the fields of theatre, music, the visual arts, literature, dance, internet and digital media.
Its public grants programme focusses on cultural projects in 21 major cities and a regional association in North Rhine-Westphalia, further evidences its commitment to intercultural projects and cultural education.
The NRW KULTURsekretariat is also involved as an internal and external partner in cultural and political processes and dialogues within the association’s networks, and enhances cultural competence through its conferences and conventions on topics of current relevance.
An integral part of the organisation’s international activities, the International Visitors’ Programme has been co-ordinated by the NRW KULTURsekretariat since early 2009. This programme brings journalists, curators, artists, cultural educators and policy makers from all over the world to NRW to work together to create supportive networks and collaborations which will then be eligible for grants.
The NRW KULTURsekretariat comprises a team of employees and freelancers who organise and co-ordinate the programme work in close collaboration with the individual cultural partners and alongside selection committees, advisory councils and juries. It is funded by the partner cities, while the project funding is provided for the most part by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The work of the NRW KULTURsekretariat is managed by an advisory council and a general assembly. In addition, the programme committee regularly takes operational decisions at the level of the individual participating cities.
Projects are funded in accordance with the programme structure, which is approved by the general assembly.
