FROM DANCEWEB AACHEN-HEERLEN TO A DANCEWEB MAAS-RHEIN

PILOT OF A CROSS-BORDER DIGITAL INTERNET PLATFORM FOR DANCE TANZweb.org

With the support of the funding, a cross-border portal will be launched for the first time to increase the visibility of regional dance events and facilitate information exchange about the art form through image, text and film.

The pilot project will initially cover the cities of Aachen and Heerlen. The intention is to expand it during the next phase to include the cities of Maastricht and Liège, using funding from the Netherlands and Belgium, and then to expand the portal to become TANZwebEUREGIO (working title), to cover the entire Maas-Rhine region.

The cities of Aachen and Heerlen draw attention for their productions, festivals and guest performances, and local dance practitioners are engaged in intensive cross-border networking. A TANZweb platform for Aachen and Heerlen, and in the medium and long term for the wider Maas-Rhine region, would provide effective and powerful structures to amplify and publicise this potential in the cities, the region and further afield. Funding would allow for the current bilingual articles in English and German to be translated into Dutch and French.

A key factor for success is the artistic quality of the dance films and photography being created, as well as the journalistic quality of the reviews, their diversity of perspective and the quality of the translations. One of the project’s goals is therefore to build a network of critics and filmmakers from and in the region, if possible in collaboration with local training centres. The more cities can be included, the more quickly this goal will be achieved.

Once a start has been made in this region, a TANZweb for the Netherlands and Belgium, analogous to that currently present in North Rhine-Westphalia, will be created one step at a time.
