SUITCASED SOUVENIR – DIGITAL DIVERSITY DELIVERY

RESONATING

In RESONATING SUITCASE (sponsored by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia), composer and sound artist Rochus Aust gave his neighbours of different nationalities in Cologne free, personal mini concerts using his suitcase of sounds. In return, he asked for unique sound presents.

For SUITCASING RESONANCE (part of the PLURIVERSALE of the Academy of the Arts of the World, Cologne), all the material he collected was subjected to a colonial-harmonic analysis and embedded in a symphonic composition for electrophonic orchestra with organ, accordion and Arabic vocals.

SUITCASING

In SUITCASED SOUVENIR, the finished symphonic material becomes the starting point. The composition created by a diverse neighbourhood is dissected into digital fragments and fed back into the suitcase of sound.

With this and other analogue and digital equipment and instruments, artists Marc de Vos (Tielrode, Belgium), Han Halewijn (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Rochus Aust (Cologne) journey from North Rhine-Westphalia via the Netherlands to Belgium and back again.

Together they visit an itinerary of ten public places, where they select people randomly (neighbours in the broadest sense), looking for those willing to act as ‘mediums’ and send video souvenirs created live on site to third parties.

SOUVENIRING

The souvenir consists of a postal communication in the form of an original watercolour QR code (the machine readability of which will be dificult) and an individualised link the recipient can use to retrieve the video souvenir.

At the end of the project, the video souvenir and watercolour QR codes from Cologne (Germany), Mönchengladbach (Germany), Aachen (Germany), Arnhem (Netherlands), Nijmegen (Netherlands), Venlo (Netherlands), Roosendaal (Netherlands), Antwerp(Belgium), Leuven (Belgium) and Welkraedt (Belgium)  will all be viewable atwww.rochusaust.de/souvenirs.
